You were at your workbench, putting the finishing touches on your brass gauntlet, wearing your bronze cog pajamas and a white tank top when you heard a knock at the door.
“Come in,” you called without looking up from your wok.
Your door opened and closed quickly. You turned to see Lorenzo and Tory standing in the middle of your room. You smiled , seeing your 2 best friends in front of you. You stood up with your arms out.
“Ah, Tory! Long time no see!” you said happily and he smiled and embraced you.
“Good to see you too ______,” he said with his low, husky voice.
You turned to Lorenzo.
“Tory is here. What's the special occasion?” you asked.
Lorenzo grinned and led you to your door.
“We have a surprise for you!” he giggled.
You smiled as he opened your door. You saw a flash of blue eyes and blonde hair and you quickly retreated back to your room, pulling Lorenzo back in as well.
“What is he doing in here?!” you whispered.
“_______, just trust me. (gnyh) isn't his GF. He just told you that to get you to stay away from him. Please talk to him,” Lorenzo said.
You looked up at Tory. He nodded. You straightened up, took a deep breath, and opened your door. There was Ludwig, anxiously waiting for you to come out of your room. You stepped out with Lorenzo and Tory behind you. You nervously stood in your doorway, but Tory gave you a gentle, reassuring push towards Ludwig and you tentatively shuffled closer to him.
“______,” Ludwig said.
You glanced once more at Lorenzo and Tory. They motioned that they were going upstairs to leave you two to talk. You looked up at Ludwig.
“Um, h-hi,” you stuttered.
“Are you going to talk to me now?”
“Vell speak zen!” he chuckled.
“So (gnyh) isn't your girlfriend?”
“Nein. I'm sorry she told you zat. I am really interested in talking to you. I've been looking for anozer steampunk for a long time,” he said.
“Me too. I'm sorry I snapped at you yesterday. I saw (gnyh) and I freaked out. She called me two nights ago saying if she saw me near you, she would take Lukas away,” you said and Lukas flew over to you and gave you a gentle love nip on the ear.
“Again, zat dragon is amazing. I've tried to make flying mechanisms, but zey fail miserably every time. I can see vy he's so precious to you.”
“Well not only that, but he was the last thing I made with my father 5 years ago before he died. Lukas can actually think on his own, he has feelings and can move freely. Sometimes I think that my father's soul is inside Lukas.”
“Zat is amazing how he can do zat. I am sorry for your loss ________, I really am, even zough it vas 5 years ago.”
“Would you like to see my workshop?” you asked.
“I vould love to,” Ludwig smiled and you led him into your sanctuary.
As he entered your room, it was as if he had entered a completely new world; sort of a steampunk wonderland. There were shelves of your creations hooked onto your walls, model aircrafts hung from your ceiling, and then he laid eyes on your workbench. You pulled out the chair for your workbench and motioned for him to sit down. He sat and you gave him the grand tour of everything in your work station. He “oohed” and “aahed” at your inventory as he saw rare items you had found and then some things he had never seen before. Then you showed him something that really blew his mind.
You pulled up the surface of your workbench and it split in half, folding up and sliding down into the side, revealing your entire steampunk accessory wardrobe. His eyes widened as he reached in and pulled out your bronze, triple vented gas mask that you had made a couple years back. He explored until until he had searched your entire workbench, or so he thought. You were about to close the top when something small and circular caught his eye.
“Vait, vas is zis?” he said and reached for it.
It was your pendant.
“Have you ever heard of that old steampunk story about the pendants? How two people with this gift would make identical pendants and once those two people met-”
“Zey fall in love. Ja, I've zat one before,” he said and pulled something out from under his scarf.
He turned and held it up for you to see.
“_______, I zink ve vere meant for each ozer,” he said as you examined the pendants.
Both pendants were white with a black raven perched on a branch.
“Y-yeah, I g-guess we were!” you cried and threw yourself at him.
He wrapped his arms tightly around you and you nestled into his firm chest.
“Ich liebe dich _______,” he said.
“Ich liebe dich auch Ludwig,” you said back.
“Y-you know German?” he whispered.
“My father was German,” you smiled.
You pulled away and grabbed his hand. You walked upstairs hand in hand to your proud friends and mother, sporting your pendants in plain sight for the world to see. You hugged your friends, thanking them for telling you to try. You hugged your mother, who pulled Ludwig into a hug to welcome him to the family. That night, Ludwig spent the night with you and in the morning you drove both of you to school.

You were approached by (gnyh). She grabbed the collar of your shirt.
“I thought I told you to stay away from my boyfriend,” she growled.
“You told me to stay away from Ludwig, not your boyfriend,” you said casually.
“He is my boyfriend!” she yelled and grabbed Lukas from beside you.
She raised her arm and was about to throw Lukas at the ground, when a strong, warm hand grabbed her wrist. She turned to see Ludwig staring down at her. She smiled brightly.
“Oh, hi Luddy! I was just about to throw this twerp's little thing at the ground. I'll be with you in a second,” he said, but Ludwig pried Lukas easily and gently out of her hand and walked to you, setting him on your shoulder.
“I vould really appreciate it if you vould stop picking on mein liebeling,” he said and put his arm around you and pulled you to him.
“But Luddy! I thought we-”
“Nein. I don't love you (gnyh) und ve never vent out. You should never have zreatened mein _______ because now you have to put up viz her friends,” he said and a gang of your “out-of-sight” friends stepped in front of you.
One of them cracked his knuckles.
“Don't worry guys, the Hero's got this.”
From that day on, you and Ludwig lived happily with each other, piecing together incredible things for steampunk cons, showing off your work in art galleries, you even made a dragon for Ludwig. He named her Victoria. Her and Lukas were inseparable. Eventually you and Ludwig moved into a nice, medium sized house together and continued your art. Your time believing that old legend was not wasted, for it found your love and soon you were to be married and bound to each others hearts in the bronze bonds of love.
